You can't fly a drone near an airport... or can you? The drone incursion at Gatwick Airport last December was clearly a reckless and deliberate act of sabotage, the consequences of which brought misery to the travelling public and burdened the airport and airlines alike with significant expense and logistic upheaval.  The cost to the UK has been put in excess of £50m. While the story moves off into distant memory, 6 months on from the incident, the aftermath has also left its mark on the fledgling commercial drone services industry, with many operators, particularly those that work [...]

By |2019-06-16T11:57:10+01:00June 4th, 2019|Categories: CAA, Featured, News|Tags: , , , , , , |1 Comment

Are Government and the Media Responding to Misinformation? Well the answer is clearly - YES! A recent request for data under the Freedom of Information Act was made to the UK Airprox Board (UKAB) by the Airprox Reality Check Organisation and the results are causing quite a stir within the drone industry. The information requested was the amount of airprox incidences where there was proof outside of the report itself that a drone has flown close to an aircraft in UK skies and the answer was a resounding zero. [...]

Drone Deliveries and Medicine Time is often a critical factor in the field of medicine and so medical professionals are starting to look at drones to see if they can save valuable hours and minutes in a variety of capacities. Zipline International We’ve look at this ground breaking organisation before in a previous blog https://dronesaferegister.org.uk/blog/drone-deliveries-not-just-for-pizzas/ but they are worth taking a second look at – especially now that they have expanded their operations from Rwanda to also include Ghana and are now providing 13,000,000 with access to life saving medicines.  They [...]

DSR Back into the Dragons’ Den The 9th of September 2018 was a landmark day in the history of Drone Safe Register as it was the air date of the episode of Dragons’ Den where we gained investment form Dragon Peter Jones CBE. At DSR HQ, we had been keeping our involvement in the BBC’s flagship business programme a secret for the best part of 6 months, so frankly it was a giant relief when it all went public. We knew that having the investment and backing of someone like Peter [...]

By |2019-04-17T09:04:16+01:00April 17th, 2019|Categories: News|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

As spring approaches and the UK’s weather improves soon we’ll be seeing more drones taking to the skies than ever before. Drone season is nearly upon us and this year DSR predicts that in 2019 we shall see more drones being flown at events than ever before.  This is great news as the nation’s businesses embrace drone technology.  There is nothing wrong with this at all, as long as the pilots flying drones at events are legal commercial pilots. Under the UK’s aviation law, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) states that anybody who is flying a drone [...]

How soon will we have drone deliveries ?

By |2019-04-08T13:14:37+01:00April 13th, 2019|Categories: Featured, General, News|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

How soon will we have drone deliveries ? When you mentioned drones, one of the subjects that always come up is the possibility of drone deliveries and how realistic are they. It’s fun to imagine that a drone will drop your Friday night pizza to your doorstep but will it ever happen? In fact, the science-fictionesque sight of the sky buzzing with package carrying drones might become reality sooner than you think with large organisations such as Amazon and Alphabet (Google’s parent company) investing some serious resources into bringing the idea [...]

Drones can be used to complete a great deal of functions, from inspections and surveys to search and rescue but this Hungarian company is using them in a completely new way – to create beautiful art in the sky. There are not many people who don’t enjoy the spectacle of lights in the sky but in a world where fireworks are becoming increasingly criticised for their detrimental effect on the environment and effect on local animals and wildlife, these drone shows could provide a perfect solution. Collmot say that their aim, with their creation [...]

Drone Roof Survey London

By |2019-03-24T23:01:47+01:00February 26th, 2019|Categories: News|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Is it possible to get a drone roof survey in London? There are of course laws governing the use of drones in London, as in all built up areas, but it is possible to hire a drone pilot for a roof survey. An experienced operator will know how to carry out a roof survey in London with a drone and what authorities he’ll need to contact. As well as following the standard CAA regulations for flying drones, there are some additional considerations when it comes to London. Most of the east of the city is controlled airspace, meaning a [...]

Property Inspections By Drone

By |2019-03-24T23:01:48+01:00February 21st, 2019|Categories: News|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

Drone property inspections are now available across the UK. Using an unmanned aerial vehicle with a remote controlled camera is ideal for reaching hard to access areas such as roofs and chimneys. There are several different reasons for needing a property inspection, and the equipment, process and expertise required can vary. For example, a comprehensive survey by a Chartered Surveyor can be valuable if you are purchasing a property. This may not go as far as a survey of the roof unless there are signs of problems. A drone property inspection is ideal for checking a specific part [...]

Drone Property Inspections

By |2019-02-21T03:08:53+01:00February 19th, 2019|Categories: News|Tags: , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Commercial use of drones is predicted to grow massively over the next decade, and drone roof inspections will be one of the key services. Using a drone to take aerial photographs and video footage of a property has many advantages over traditional methods, particularly when it comes to roof inspections and other hard to access areas. Drone property inspections are being used in property sales, to assess the condition for maintenance and repairs and for insurance claims. Scaffolding and cherry pickers have been used for roof inspections in the past, but drones are a cheaper and quicker alternative. The [...]
