Aerial Filming

By |2019-09-08T09:34:20+01:00September 3rd, 2019|Categories: Aerial Filming, News|Tags: , , , , , |0 Comments

Aerial Filming Drones continue to make the news and with more and more aerial filming, aerial photography and ‘drone-for-hire’ operators flying in under the radar, it’s not always good news! In an article we wrote, we mentioned that Drone Safe Register is making headway in the campaign to encourage safe and responsible use of drone technology and its increasing use in industry. But, with all the negative press associated with aerial filming or drone usage, and before we move ever closer to the idea of ‘drone delivery’ - have some overshot the runway? As drone technology has become more and more a part of everyday life, it has become increasingly clear that amendments have been required to the UK's Air Navigation Order. The law is never finished as the saying goes and must change to reflect the circumstances and sometimes, the events, of the day. One such event that can be credited with heralding the first of two rounds of changes of SUA operators in 2019, is the shutdown of Gatwick airport in December 2018 by the apparent unauthorised drone activity. Whether you feel that the amendments are a [...]

By |2019-03-19T21:16:12+01:00January 12th, 2019|Categories: CAA, News|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Airspace counts as an invisible national asset – put simply, it is defined as the part of the atmosphere controlled by a State above its territory and over the sea which it is committed to provide air navigation services. It is divided into two main categories – controlled and uncontrolled space and in the UK, the CAA is the body that’s responsible for administering the rules and regulations regarding it. Over time, obviously, the needs for the airspace change and so the airspace classes need to be amended so they can meet these requirements.  [...]

This morning one of our Drone Safe Register members witnessed first-hand an illegal drone pilot allegedly flying and filming on a promotional video for Parcel Force. The DSR member, who asked not to be named, told DSR he couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing with regards to a drone being flown just metres from a road – A clear breach of the UK’s Air Navigation Order and the CAA’s drone code. Here is the video of the incident clearly showing the Parcel Force van as the subject and a drone being flown next to a [...]

More drone pilots than ever are now becoming trained and legal as Drone Safe Register tackles the use of illegal drones.  Before Drone Safe Register launched back in November 2015 it was very clear the UK had a huge problem with drone pilots operating without CAA permission and correct insurance. By |2019-01-18T21:02:47+01:00March 8th, 2016|Categories: News|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

1. Try to be flexible with the dates for filming Weather is a massive factor when it comes to hiring a drone. When you are looking to book a drone, try to be fully aware of the UK weather forecast and, if an unexpected storm comes in out of nowhere, understand the filming may have to be delayed. Scheduling a second date is a good idea in case the drone is unable to fly due to rain or wind.  If you are hiring a drone to take aerial pictures at your wedding, there isn’t going to be a lot of room for dates to be flexible, but [...]

Nationwide Church Spire Inspection Service For the first time in its history Chichester Cathedral in West Sussex has used an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), more commonly known as a drone, to carry out an important aerial survey on the spire of the Cathedral in Chichester. Back in October 2014 the spire suffered a direct lightning strike. This made it important to carry out a close aerial inspection of the stonework to check for any damage.  The cost of employing the services of a drone helped to save costs for the Cathedral which was very welcomed. Controlled by a Drone Safe Register [...]
