Safe Drone Flying In The UK

Why Is It Important To Fly Legally?

Drone Safe Register:

Laws exist for a reason and that’s to maintain safety. Safety first is a policy we employ in every operator on our network. As the biggest representation of commercial operators in the UK, it’s important that we prove to the general public that drones operations are safe, legal and efficient.

Coverdrone:

As the question suggests it is important as it is a legal requirement, the laws are put in place to ensure the safety of the general public and acting outside of these would put these at risk. From an insurance perspective, our policy is written on the same basis as the majority if not all other insurance policies in that it will not cover any illegal activities.

How Does Drone Safe Register / Coverdrone Ensure Our Clients Flying Safe & Legally?

Drone Safe Register:

You cannot join our network without the correct flying permissions and ID. Beyond that, we have very clear, detailed contracts outlining the safety and flying requirements when completing a commercial drone operation.

Coverdrone:

Within our quotation question set, we ask this question of the client and then again at each renewal for them to agree to. We also would scrutinize this more closely in the event of a claim, if the client was unable to adequately show that they are operating legally and within the rules and regulations then this would lead to further investigation from the underwriters.

How Do Drone Safe Register / Coverdrone Stay Up To Date With Operating Regulations?

Drone Safe Register:

As representatives of commercial operators, we feel it is our responsibility to be in constant communication with the Civil Aviation Authority and communicate new laws and regulations to our network. We’re not afraid to speak the truth when it comes to new operating regulations - everything we do is to benefit our industry and the safety of the general public.

Coverdrone:

We are constantly in contact with the Aviation Authorities in the territories that we operate with along with the training providers to ensure that we are up to date with the operating regulations and any future changes in the pipeline so that we can react accordingly.

What Does Drone Safe Register / Coverdrone Do to Promote Remaining Compliant With the Drone Operating Regulations?

Drone Safe Register:

As a network, we always promote the most up to date drone operating regulations. As a drone store, we do more than any other retailer in educating our customers on the importance of and how to fly safely. We would never sell a drone to someone who we believe would ever fly unsafely.

Coverdrone:

For example (the) EC785/2004 regulation in its purpose has not changed since its creation and we have always made clients aware of the requirement to remain legally compliant and provide the correct cover, specifically the aviation liability, to ensure that they are.

What Is The Best-Recommended Way For Drone Operators to Increase Their Knowledge in Regards to Operating Safely?

Drone Safe Register:

It’s important for all pilots to increase their knowledge in regards to operating safely - whether that’s keeping up to date with the latest CAA laws and regulations or developing physical, practising flight training. Our private network constantly shares information on how to improve and with such a diverse range of pilots, everyone benefits!

Coverdrone:

The best way for a client to increase knowledge and remain up to date is by contacting one of the CAA approved NQE’s who would be able to provide not only theoretical knowledge but also the physical practical flight training that we feel if the most important aspect to developing skills, keeping in contact with your chosen NQE is also important as they can advise on any upcoming operational regulation updates and provide refresher training. Further ‘ non-mandatory ‘ courses are also available on the market that would increase clients’ skill and knowledge base and allow them to stand out from the crowd.
