DJI Inspire 3

The DJI Inspire 3 was a long time coming, with many professional drone operators wondering if it would ever appear. The Inspire 2 first appeared in 2016 and with the rate of new releases of other models, it’s understandable why some people gave up hope. The good news is that it really was worth the wait. The DJI Inspire 3 is both worthy of the Inspire name and a significant step forward on its predecessor.

DJI Inspire 3 Specifications

Firstly, the Zenmuse X9 gimbal and 45-megapixel full-frame sensor really puts this drone in another class. Any ground-based photographer would be blown away by the quality of this camera, but to think it’s integrated into a drone is incredible! For movie makers, It can capture 8K video in H.264 format and 4K up to 120p. Photographers will be equally impressed with the image capture quality and the formatting means you can edit using Photoshop or other software without additional conversion.

The camera spec is of course just part of the story. The design and build quality is a significant improvement on the Inspire 2 and some of the niggles around storage convenience and the noise levels have been addressed. The addition of an FPV camera for the operator to reference positioning - especially useful if the main camera is pointed in a different direction than the flight path - is another welcome improvement.

Key Features

Features like 3D Dolly and Repeatable Routes also set new standards for flight control. With the latter, the drone and gimbal will both duplicate a flight path for multiple takes. 3D Dolly opens up fantastic new creative possibilities with the drone following a flight path automatically leaving the operator free to control both the gimbal and the speed of the aircraft. This is ideal for footage such as following a car around a track where the speed may alter at different points.
