Drone Safe Register launch ‘Drones for Schools’
This free programme will be available to each of our professional members to use as a dynamic resource opportunity for their local area.
It provides them with all the information they need to deliver a structured educational and high-quality programme for pupils within the 7-11-year educational category within the school system throughout the UK and Ireland.
Backed by tech giants Jessops, our mutual investor Peter Jones CBE and DJI, the world leader in drone manufacturing, this is the first national programme of its kind designed to educate the next generation of drone pilots.

As well as the presentation and accompanying slide notes, pilots and schools will also receive supporting worksheets including a short drone knowledge and safety quiz that can lead to a certificate of course completion. There is an extra curriculum opportunity for those teachers looking to add to the DSR programme following the presentation.
In addition, Schools will also be offered the chance to enter an exclusive ‘Design a Drone Safety Poster’ with a term prize of £250 being awarded to the school of the winning entrant, along with the professionally finished poster as judged by the panel: Peter Jones, Jessops, Mark Boyt and DJI.

It’s an ambition that I’m proud to now be realising after taking the time to develop and test a course that I feel reflects the values of DSR, the safety information we’d love the public to know about and also to offer a glimpse into the huge potential of the drone industry.

Drone pilots who are interested and sign up to the Drones for Schools Terms and Code of Conduct, will be able to deliver the course to their local schools by accessing and downloading the course content and guidelines. We have also created a video of the course delivery as a visual aid. The quality of the course and the professionalism of our excellent pilots are very important to us. We want every pupil who participates to have the best possible experience, which is why we have spent plenty of time with educational professionals and Head Teachers for feed-back and input.
Where schools are keen to get the course in front of their pupils but have not yet been approached by their local DSR Drone Pilot member, there is facility for requesting the programme on our website. Completion by a school of a short form will let us at DSR HQ know to find your local participating pilot and put them in touch with you without delay.
DSR are not the only ones to be excited about this ground-breaking national programme.
The Drones for Schools scheme has been launched for ages 7 – 11 pupils currently – Key Stage 2 in England and Wales, P4-P7 in Scotland, however, we are already working on companion programmes in other key school year groups as well as including those children groups operating outside of the school system in areas such as Guides and Scouting. This is a fantastic early opportunity and grounding for those young people who may look forward to using drones in the future, maybe for fun or as a future career.
