Drone for Schools education programme

Drone Safe Register’s Drones for Schools programme is a structured and interactive presentation for 7-11 year old children in the school system of UK and Ireland.

In England and Wales, this is key stage 2 and in Scotland this is P4 to P7. The programme satisfies course material under the national curriculum category ‘Design and Technology’.

Our programme is around 35 to 45 minutes long depending on child interaction (can be less), and utilises a slide and video presentation, along with actual drone equipment for demonstration and is delivered by a Drone Safe Register professionally approved drone pilot. Once we have made an initial arrangement with your school to attend on a given date/time our pilot will arrive in good time to setup demonstration equipment and hook up a laptop to your presentation projector and screen. For best results we need to connect to the internet to show some video, so WiFi or ethernet (RJ45) connection is desirable, but not essential to the delivery of the programme.

Our approved DSR member will then deliver the programme within the time made available and at the end of the presentation will be happy to hang around for questions and answers. We also leave you with a course completion certificate and a follow up class activity initiatives to design a drone safety poster which you can choose to have your class/school enter to win £250.

As an option, your local DSR drone pilot will be able to offer you a practical demonstration of Drone flight. This will be subject to the usual legal and risk assessments as you would expect and may not be suitable for every school. Our pilot will be happy to discuss this element separately with you prior to the Drones for Schools programme presentation.

Peter speaking about his involvement with the programme said:-

I look forward to playing my part in working alongside the DSR Pilots to bring awareness of this incredibly exciting technology to the forefront of the UK mind. The idea of working with the next generation of drone pilots in the school system is something that I am particularly passionate about, and I look forward to seeing our Drones for Schools programme develop over time to provide the opportunity for school children to learn and develop in this exciting area – Peter Jones CBE
