DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT DRONE REGISTRATION

Yesterday, the Department for Transport released new plans to ensure safe drone practise and to protect the public.  Measures released for consultation include (21 December 2016) Mandatory Registration of new drones Tougher penalties for illegal flying near no-fly zones and new signs for no-fly zones at sensitive sites such as airports and prisons Making drones electronically identifiable so the owner’s details can be passed to police if they are spotted breaking the law The consultation will also consider whether there is a need for a new criminal offence for misuse of drones. We are delighted to report that today, the UK Civil Aviation Authority and NATS have launched a new website to help promote drone safety called Drone Safe. The new Drone Safe ‘Dronecode’ website has advice for users on how to operate UAV’s safely and has been set up following a spate of near-misses with planes which we keep seeing within the UK news headlines. Here's a straight and simple check list that you can use as a guide when you are hiring a drone operator.  Of course our best advice would be to hire from the Drone Safe Register where safe and legal is guaranteed. Always check your drone pilot has a valid CAA PfCO (Permission for Commercial Operation) certificate along with the appropriate valid insurance. Footage shows Illegal Drone Flight over Lincoln

YouTube footage has emerged showing an "incredibly irresponsible" drone flight over a city.  Police have previously released an image of the drone pilot in an attempt to trace him, as they believe the flight may have been illegal. The footage was filmed from the drone as it flew over Lincoln, which is close to two RAF bases.  Flying within 150 metres of a congested areas is illegal unless permission is given by the Civil Aviation Authority and this is the first time that the Police force have issued such a request with regard to a UAV operator.
